Why “This Skin Wins”?
I created this limited edition This Skin Wins cap in the lead-up to ITSAN’s first Atlanta conference.
After speaking with so many people in the TSW community, I wanted to reclaim those three letters and turn them into something positive.
Because while TSW can take so much from you, it also reveals a level of strength and resilience you may never have known you possessed.
This Skin Wins isn’t a promise that every day will be easy. It’s a reminder that on the hardest days, your skin is not failing and neither are you.
TSW: This Skin Wins.
Jacqui, Salvida Founder

"As you can see in my photo, I’m going through Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW), so my skin isn’t perfect - it’s red, flaky, and fragile. But what I’ve noticed in just one week of using Salvida is that my skin already feels so much stronger and more resilient.
It doesn’t sting going on, it sinks in beautifully, and it actually gives my skin that “protected but still breathing” feeling that most creams can’t. Normally with TSW, so many products burn or make me worse, but this one is soothing and gentle while still working deeply. (And doesn't stink like beef tallow).
For anyone struggling with eczema, TSW, or sensitive skin, I honestly feel this is such a safe and supportive option. My skin still has a long journey ahead, but I can already tell Salvida is helping me rebuild strength instead of tearing it down."

When moisturising doesn’t feel soothing.
During topical steroid withdrawal, skin can become extraordinarily reactive. Products that once felt comforting may suddenly sting, feel hot or leave the skin feeling wetter, stickier and more uncomfortable.
Some people choose to stop moisturising entirely. Others want to avoid water-based lotions but still feel they need a physical layer between their skin and the outside world.
Barrier NPR+ was created for that space.
It doesn’t flood the skin with water. It delivers concentrated, water-free barrier support with zinc oxide, castor oil, colloidal oatmeal and other naturally nourishing ingredients.
Hydration ≠ Barrier Support
Hydration adds or attracts water. Barrier support helps protect vulnerable skin. They’re not the same thing - and Barrier NPR+ was intentionally created to do the latter.
Typically contain water, alongside humectants that attract moisture, emollients that soften and occlusives that help slow evaporation. |
|
Contains no water and is not formulated to directly deliver hydration. Instead, it forms a invisible physical layer that helps shield vulnerable skin, soften dry flakes and relieve discomfort associated with dry, itchy skin |
|
A conventional hydrating lotion, a cure for TSW, or strict No Moisture Treatment. |
"I started using the barrier NPR+ on April 9, 2026. I am absolutely moved and super emotional to see the weeping cracks on my neck closed…. The nighttime itchiness has gone down significantly - it was interrupting my sleep terribly I was going towards a very dark place without rest, without respite, trapped in an itchy glove called: my skin. I know there is a long road ahead of me yet- but your formula has helped give me a boost of hope that the night be a way out of this endless TSW battle."

What the Research Tells Us So Far
No Moisture Treatment (NMT) is a moisture-restriction approach used by some people during topical steroid withdrawal.
An intensive protocol associated with Japanese dermatologist Dr Kenji Sato. It typically involves stopping topical steroids and moisturisers, with some versions also limiting bathing and fluid intake. |
|
By removing external moisture, the skin is allowed to dry and shed naturally. Proponents believe this may help it regulate its own moisture levels rather than relying on hydration from external sources. |

Is Barrier NPR+ Strict NMT?
Strict NMT means applying nothing to your skin, but for many people, that can feel too difficult or restrictive.
Barrier NPR+ offers a middle ground. It allows you to avoid water-based moisturisers while still giving your skin protective support from zinc oxide, castor oil and colloidal oatmeal - helping make everyday life feel a little more manageable.
15% Zinc. Full Barrier Support.
TSW skin doesn’t simply feel dry. It can appear red, flaky, cracked, raw or weepy and feel intensely uncomfortable.
Zinc oxide provides physical protection without adding hydration. And that's why Barrier NPR+ is 15% non-nano zinc.
Zinc oxide sits on the skin’s surface, forming a protective layer between vulnerable skin and external irritants. |
|
The concentrated, zinc-rich balm provides a substantial protective layer without introducing additional water. |
|
Barrier NPR+ was dermatologist tested and achieved an irritation score of zero - even on sensitive skin. |

Your Questions, Answered
No. Our products are not a cure for topical steroid withdrawal (TSW). TSW is a complex process that the body needs to move through on its own, often in cycles, and there are no topical products that can make it simply go away.
Barrier NPR+ was created to offer a gentle, supportive option for those who choose to continue using skincare during their TSW journey. It is formulated with 15% zinc, alongside soothing ingredients such as castor oil, colloidal oatmeal, sweet almond oil and ceramides, to help calm the skin, support the skin barrier and provide comfort during periods of sensitivity.
Everyone’s TSW experience is different, and Barrier NPR+ is designed to support the skin - not to treat or cure the condition.
Barrier NPR+ IS recommended by board-certified naturopaths for its blend of gentle, time-honoured ingredients that have been used for centuries to help relieve skin discomfort.
It’s steroid-free, 98% natural, and formulated with a gentle plant derived ingredients - making it a trusted choice for sensitive, compromised skin.
Yes. Barrier NPR+ is safe to use on both the face and body.
As facial skin can be more delicate, we recommend applying sparingly to begin with - a little goes a long way.
As with any new skincare product, patch testing is advised, especially if your skin is highly sensitive or reactive.
How to patch test
Apply a small amount of product to a discreet area of skin – we suggest the inner forearm – and observe the area over the next 24–48 hours.
Patch testing helps you understand how your skin responds before applying a product more broadly and is especially important for sensitive, reactive skin.
Our ultra-gentle formulas are backed by extensive independent clinical studies on sensitive skin - along with plenty of real-life use on our own “guinea-kids”. That’s what gives us confidence that little ones truly love our products.
As with any skincare, we recommend carefully reading the ingredient list, checking for known allergies, and patch testing before first use.
A gentle note for parents:
If a skincare formula contains food-based ingredients, it’s best to wait until your child has been introduced to those foods during weaning before applying them topically. Some research suggests that early skin exposure to certain food ingredients may be linked to the development of sensitivities.
Many people choose zinc-rich products for wet or weepy-looking areas because of the protective layer they provide. However, oozing, increasing pain, warmth, swelling, fever, yellow crusting or a sudden deterioration may indicate infection and requires prompt medical advice.
Barrier NPR+ is completely water-free, eliminating the need for preservatives - since bacteria, mould and yeast require water to thrive. This anhydrous formula also delivers superior performance, creating a more effective occlusive barrier compared to traditional balms.
Water-free formulations are scientifically backed as the best option for active eczema care. In fact, the National Eczema Association recommends anhydrous formulas for their ability to provide lasting protection and hydration without irritation.
Barrier NPR+ was not formulated to hydrate the skin.
In a 2024 independent, third-party clinical study conducted by Eurofins*, Barrier NPR+ showed no statistically significant change in skin hydration levels following application. This means it does not function as a moisturiser or hydrator.
Instead, Barrier NPR+ is designed to support and protect the skin. Its role is to help soothe and calm compromised skin, support the skin barrier, reduce the appearance of visible redness, smooth rough or bumpy areas, and help shield the skin from environmental stressors and triggers.
If hydration is what your skin needs most, Bodyguard is the product in our range specifically formulated to deliver moisture.

No Moisture Treatment (NMT) is an approach sometimes chosen during topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) that involves avoiding moisturisers and limiting topical products.
The idea behind NMT is to reduce external interference so the skin can regulate its own moisture production over time. Some people find this approach helpful, while others find it uncomfortable or unsuitable - experiences vary widely.
Barrier NPR+ was not formulated to hydrate the skin, and a 2024 independent clinical study* showed no statistically significant change in skin hydration levels after application. For this reason, some people who are following a modified or flexible NMT approach may still choose to use Barrier NPR+ for comfort or barrier support.
That said, strict NMT generally means avoiding all topical products, including Barrier NPR+. If you are following NMT in its strictest form, Barrier NPR+ would not align with that approach.
Barrier NPR+ exists to support those who choose to continue using skincare - helping to calm, soothe and protect the skin without adding hydration.
Whether or not to use it during NMT is a personal decision, and one that’s best guided by what feels right for your skin and your individual journey.

At Salvida, we don’t rely on assumptions or anecdotes - we rely on science. Every claim we make is backed by independent, third-party clinical testing.
In 2024, Barrier NPR+ underwent Repeat Insult Patch Testing and 14-day cumulative irritancy testing conducted by accredited, independent research facilities.
These studies involved 126 participants aged 18 to 70, all of whom reported having sensitive skin.
The results showed:
+ 100% of participants experienced no irritation or reaction (MDIS score of 0)
+ 100% of results demonstrated skin compatibility equivalent to distilled water
+ 100% of testing was conducted independently by accredited third-party laboratories
These outcomes indicate that both products are exceptionally gentle and well tolerated, even on sensitive or compromised skin barriers.
That said, everyone’s skin is unique. We always recommend performing a patch test before first use,.
Our commitment is simple - thoughtful formulation, transparent claims and science-backed reassurance you can trust.
